Register Your Team for the 2012 Walk for Hemophilia!

NHF Colorado is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2012 Colorado Walk for Hemophilia! We encourage everyone to start a team and raise funds for that team.

Our third annual Colorado Walk for Hemophilia benefits those suffering from bleeding disorders in the Colorado community and their families. All proceeds from theses fundraising efforts will benefit NHF Colorado. The funds raised by your team will help the chapter to continue to provide educational programming, financial assistance, advocacy, and more. Every dollar makes a difference!

REGISTER TODAY!

Once again, we’ll be holding the East vs. West competition among teams. The top Teams from each region (Denver Metro and Western Slope) will receive awards. Additionally, the top pledge earner in the state will receive prominent recognition. To learn how to win this honor, join us for our Team Captain training on April 5th – we’ll provide all kinds of hints and tips for a successful walk team.

All teams will need to register on the new site, hosted by the National Hemophilia Foundation. We won’t have “personal fundraisers,” but instead personal fundraisers can register as teams.  This is part of a new structure in joining the National Walk for Hemophilia.

WHEN & WHERE

  • Western Slope Walk will be on August 4th at 4:00 p.m. at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction
  • The Front Range Walk will be held at Sloan’s Lake on August 11th at 9:00 a.m.

This year’s fundraising goal is $50,000 – join in and help us reach (and exceed) our goal by hosting a Walk Team. Teams are the heart of the Walk for Hemophilia! You may register as an individual, make a donation, form a team, or join a team on the Hemophilia Walk website. Register today and invite everyone you know!

Important Walk Information

In order to be prepared for Saturday morning’s walk in Denver we want to share some helpful details about the walk to make your experience even more fun! Please pay special attention to the registration information.

Schedule:

  • 8:00 – 9:00 AM Registration – please be sure to arrive early to avoid the rush!
  • 9:00 AM – Walk kick off! We will have three water stations throughout the walk course around the lake.  The first water station will be the turn around for those who do not want to do the entire 5K walk.
  • 11:00 AM – Awards ceremony
  • 11:15 AM – Grill out thanks to Las Tortas!!!!

Registration

If you/your family are registering to participate in the walk the morning of the walk, please fill out the walk registration information listed below in addition to a liability waiver and photo release form (optional). This will help move you through registration more quickly and get on to the fun!

You can also make donations to your favorite Personal Fundraiser or Walk Team the morning of the Walk (at least $25/individual or $50/family) and have your registration fee waived!

If you are a Walk sponsor, your registration fee will be waived – we can’t thank you enough for your support! Please complete the liability waiver and photo release (optional) in order to participate in the walk, including volunteers.

We can only accept cash and checks at the walk this year. If you would like to pay by credit card we will have to invoice you or follow up after the walk.  Bring enough cash for any registration/donation needs, but also for a fun opportunity to support the chapter… it’s a surprise!

For Walk Teams and Personal Fundraisers

  • You do NOT need to be present to be eligible to receive the Denver Walk Top Team or Personal Fundraiser Award.
  • The online donations (through your online fundraising page) eligible towards the final amount for the top fundraiser awards will end on Friday at 5:00 p.m. We are able to continue to accept donations online, but those will not be applied towards the amounts in the fundraiser awards.
  • Cash and check donations only can be made towards your fundraising goal the morning of the Denver Walk. For those using credit cards, we will need to contact you after the Walk or invoice you for your registration/donation. We will have envelopes for cash and check donations only to apply towards your Team or Personal Fundraising goals.  We will tally up the donations during the Walk and in time for the awards ceremony.
  • If you are a Team Captain, Team Member, or Personal Fundraiser who has raised at least $25 towards your goal, you/ your family will NOT be charged a registration fee for the Walk.  We sincerely appreciate your working so hard to support the Walk and the Chapter by helping to raise contributions.
  • You can continue to raise funds online event AFTER the walk!  Your funds raised before September 23 will help your eligibility for the top statewide individual or team fundraiser!

Volunteers

We are still looking for volunteers to help us stuff goodie bags on Aug. 12 at 11:3o at the HTC.  If you’re interested in volunteering at that time or any other time during the walk, please contact Amy Board.

If you are going to be at the walk as a volunteer, we need you to complete the liability form – download here.

All of us at NHF Colorado are BEYOND excited about this fun event to support the chapter and all those affected by bleeding disorders in Colorado.  None of this would be possible without YOUR help!  Thank you so much for everything you do in the community!!!!!

Friday Fundraising Fun!

We are ONE week out from the Denver Walk for Hemophilia at Sloan’s Lake.  I’m so excited to see you all there.  This week’s Friday Fundraising Fun emails provides final suggestions before the Denver Walk to engage supporters and spread the word about the upcoming walk.

Let’s get started…

Matching Gifts

One great fundraising strategy we have seen for this walk is encouraging other give by offering a matching gift.  For example, tell your friends that if they donate towards your goal you will match their donation anywhere from 50% to 100% of their gift!  Encouraging people to make donations through matching gifts are always a GREAT way to get participation.  Offering a matching opportunity (if you can) for the last week of fundraising in combination with other strategies we have mentioned will be an outstanding way to reach your final fundraising goals!

Consider asking your company about matching gifts as well. My companies do offer employee giving or matching gifts as part of their corporate philanthropy.  Take a few minutes this week to find out if your company would be willing to match the donations you have raise for the walk – either dollar-for-dollar or .50 or .75 on the dollar.  It’s another fantastic way to create awareness and let others help you reach your fundraising goal for the walk!

Change your profile picture

If you’re on Facebook, consider changing your Facebook profile picture to the logo for the chapter or for the Colorado Walk for Hemophilia.  I’ve included both of these logos here for you!  Every day until the walk, post a link to your fundraising page on your wall and let folks know why fundraising for the cause means so much to you. If you’re on Twitter, share the information there as well.  Let social media be your friend and tell everyone about the walk!

Denver Walk Volunteers Needed!

The Colorado Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation is less than two weeks away from our Colorado Walk for Hemophilia! We are really excited about the progress and are hoping that this will be a great year for fundraising and we KNOW that it will be a ton of fun!

I’ve had several inquiries over the last week about volunteering for and at the Walk and we need all the help we can get.  We have lots of volunteer opportunities and would LOVE your help in case you are interested.  Below there is a list of roles that we are looking for help with and here are the steps to take in order to volunteer for the Denver Walk.

If you are interested in volunteering, we ask the following:

  • Email Emily Davis or Amy Board and indicate which volunteer role you are interested in for the Walk. If you are an industry representative, please let me know so I can get you the industry ethical guidelines to sign.
  • Attend the volunteer orientation on Friday, August 12th at the HTC at 11:30 a.m. (snacks provided!).
  • Arrive at the Walk at Sloan’s Lake at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13th.
  • Have a GREAT time at the Walk!!!

Volunteer Opportunities – please spread far and wide!  These are great opportunities for folks who are looking for community service time as well!

  • Course set up (signage, water stations, etc.)
  • Parking (help people with parking, etc.)
  • Registration (welcome, collect donations, hand out t-shirts)
  • Photography
  • Finish line goodie bags
  • Grilling out and food distribution
  • Course clean up (trash, recycling, etc.)

We will also need help stuffing goodie bags on Aug. 12th after the volunteer orientation and would love to have your help in case you are available and interested.  You’ll just need to stay after the orientation meeting to help out – the more folks we have the faster it will all go!

All of us at NHF Colorado cannot thank you enough for your amazing dedication and support of this community.  You cannot imagine how much it means to all of us.  If you have ANY questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact Emily Davis or Amy Board at any time.

For more details on the Walk, please visit our website.

Friday Fundraising Fun

Happy Friday!

Countdown to the Denver Walk for Hemophilia: 22 days!

We are 50% of the way to our goal and all your help will make all the difference in keeping the chapter running and thriving. Right now the top fundraising team is Team Lincoln (also the 2010 top team!)and the top person fundraiser is the HTC’s Amy Board!

This week’s Friday Fundraising Fun news focuses on telling your story and bringing out the F-U-N for the Walk! Consider being a little goofy at this year’s Walk and wear a costume or walk the walk in a creative way!

Leap Frog to Your Goal

I had one participant in a fundraising walk years ago get a team of five people together and that LEAP FROGGED the whole 5K!  Yep, you heard me right.  We all couldn’t believe it and they even dressed up AS frogs.  They got lots of attention from the other participants and the local media.  Maybe it could be you this year? Think up a creative costume or theme and show up at the Walk – tell your supporters what your planning and encourage them to support the effort.

Share Your Story

We’ve said this before, but we’ll keep sayin’ it.  Your or your family’s story is the best way to get your friends, family, and co-workers involved with the cause. Share your story in detail in email, phone calls, and conversations.  Connect your story with how this Walk can make a difference.  If you have positive stories about the chapter share those too.  Make it hard for folks to say “no” to making a pledge or a contribution. If you have a story you would like NHF Colorado to share on your blog to help spread the word and reach your fundraising goal, let us know and we’ll help you share it.

Keep up all the amazing work!  Your efforts and donations mean so very much to the community.  We’re here to do anything we can to help so keep us posted on anything you might need to reach your goals.

Have a successful fundraising story to share? Email NHF Colorado and we’ll  share it.

Friday Fundraising Fun

Happy Friday!

Need some ideas for getting the word out and raising funds for your Walk  personal or team fundraising page?  Well, you’ve come to the right spot!

This week’s Friday Fundraising Fun email provides some suggestions for using social media to raise funds for your Walk Personal or Team fundraising page.

Facebook

If you have a personal Facebook profile or your company has a Facebook page, consider sending an email to your Friends and Fans, posting a link to your fundraising page on your wall, and asking other Friends to participate in helping you raise funds and reach your goal.  You can use our email template to craft your messaging. Get your kids involved and ask them to use their Facebook networks to raise funds as well.

Keep your wall posts short and sweet and be sure to include direct links wherever you can.  Tell stories and be sure to let people know about their impact.  Always thank your donors!

Share your family’s story and pictures.  Stories and images are a great way to get people connected to your cause and help support you.

Post 3 – 5 times per week about the progress of your goals and inviting people to support your fundraising efforts.

Don’t forget to become a fan of NHF Colorado on Facebook too!

Twitter

If you’re using Twitter, it’s time to learn a little bit about “Tweet-raising.”  Reach out to your followers on Twitter to let them know what you’re up to in 140 characters or less.  You’ll be amazed at how quickly the word can spread!  Tools like HootSuite and TweetDeck are great ways to mange your Twitter – you can schedule posts to go out, shorten links, and find out about other posts related to the topic.  Popular hash tags include: #hemophilia #bleedingdisorders #vwd and #Colorado.

Twitter is a great way to spread the word.  Do your best to post anywhere between 3 – 5 times per day, ideally.  Oh, and follow NHF Colorado @cohemo.org!

Blogs

Are you a blogger?  If you’re using a blog, consider writing a story about your experience with a bleeding disorder.  Some ideas include:

  • How having a bleeding disorder has changed your life
  • What the chapter has done to support you or your family
  • Why the Walk means so much
  • Ways that friends and family can support your efforts to raise money

Include pictures and hyperlinks wherever possible. Always end your blog posts with a question and a way for readers to donate to your fundraising page. Remember, stories are a great way for people to learn more about you and your efforts. Share links to your blog post on Facebook and Twitter too.

You can subscribe to the NHF Colorado blog too and receive our posts by email.  Just add your email address on the sidebar of our website!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Friday Fundraising Fun!  As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you have.  Keep up the GREAT work and thank you for your incredible support of the chapter!!!
